i went to see Gordon Lightfoot with my wife and the inlaws in September, Edmund Fitzgerald was well done...

I've always found the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald to be an enigma. It's almost 7 minutes long and it has no chorus, but it stayed on the charts at #2 for 21 weeks.
That would never happen today. Great tune though.

Imagine that, there once was a time that a song that you could not dance to or make a flashy video of could be popular. All it had going for is was that it was a great song inspired by tragic story.

Yup, the days of the extended hit single are long, long gone. No more Freebird or Green Grass and High Tides or Layla with the long jamming guitar outro. Oh well, thank God Jerry and the boys know how to play just what I need.

tony rice did a tribute album to gordon lightfoot some years ago and where i don't usually reccommend a cover over the orginal, the way tony picks the guitar hits the same physical chords that the the lyrics do.
